Txt Msg Appt Reminders--now available at Barnett Orthodontics

As many of you already know, we've been sending e-mail appointment reminders for over a year. Now, at Akron's Barnett Orthodontics, there's one more way to get a friendly appointment reminder right to your cell phone.

Over the next few months, we will be collecting cell phone numbers for those that are interested in participating in this service. With how busy life can get, we see this as a great way to help our patients manage their appointments.

Got Justin Bieber FEVER? Barnett Ortho spoofs his choice on invisalign vs braces.

Justin Bieber wants his teeth straight just as much as the next person, but apparently, not with traditional metal braces! As you can see in the video below, this teen sensation opted for Invisalign Teen -- a clear invisible alternative to metal braces. Only recently did Invisalign become available to teenagers and its popularity is growing based on the trends we see in our practice. Invisalign is not for all problems, so if interested, be sure to ask Dr. Barnett if it's right for you.

FOOD DRIVE CONTEST WINNERS

Congratulations to Morgan and Allyson. Morgan brought in the most food items and Allyson won the drawing for everyone who brought at least one food item into the office.

Barnett Othodontics Gives Back...and so did SO MANY of our patients. 450 lbs of food!!!

We wanted to thank our wonderful patients for donating so much food for the needy over the last six weeks. We are happy to report that we collected over 450 pounds of food for the Akron Canton Regional Food Bank.

On October 15th, our entire office volunteered at the Food Bank and bagged over 1600 bags of cereal. We had a great time giving back to our community.

A special thanks to our patient, Zach Sheppard for joining us on our volunteer day. His mom works for the Food Bank and he generously gave his time to our cause.

Mouthguards...Football, Basketball and ROLLER DERBY!?!

Our first annual Mouthguard Day was a terrific success. We met a lot of new people, saw some of our old patients, and most importantly made affordable custom mouthguards to protect a lot of smiles.
While we had a lot of high school athletes come in for a mouthguard, some of the more interesting mouthguards we made were for two of the members of the Rubber City Rollergirls, an all female Roller Derby Team. While their roller derby names may be silly, "MC HamHer" and "Dead Eye HuntHer", the sport is very serious and growing in popularity.

A big thank you to the entire Team at Barnett Orthodontics for an amazing job organizing and planning this event specifically Ruth and Robin.

The proceeds from the event will be donated to the Summa Dental Health Clinic.

Congrats Miss Ohio Teen USA-- Barnett Orthodontics Patient

Becoming Miss Ohio Teen USA takes more than a beautiful smile, but straight teeth are certainly an important part of the package!

We were excited to learn recently that our past patient, Bridget Linton was crowned Miss Teen Ohio 2010. Bridget is an amazing person both inside and out and has used her position this year to work with different organizations such as the American Heart Association, Girl Talk and D.A.R.E. She has visited Ohio schools to encourage children to become aware of their inner beauty and promote a positive self image.

Barnett Ortho Gives Back: HELP us HELP Our Community

While "creating" smiles is a daily occurrence at Akron's Barnett Orthodontics, this month we hope to be creating smiles of a different sort, on the faces of those a little less fortunate.

In the month of October, our team will be volunteering at a local food shelter, the Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank. We will be helping with the organizing and packaging of their food donations. The food bank helps to feed people and fight hunger by providing food and other essential products to food pantries, hot meal sites, shelters and other hunger-relief programs. We are certain it will make a lot of people smile!

Considering the fact that we have the opportunity to work with almost a thousand area patients, we will be collecting food items for donations to the food bank.

We would LOVE your help!

Please bring in a non-perishable food item to assist us in our efforts. The items most needed are:

• boxed cereal
• peanut butter
• canned tuna
• canned vegetables
• canned stew
• canned soups

Everyone who brings in a food donation will be entered into a drawing for a $20.00 gift card to Summit Mall.

The person who brings in the most food items will win a $30.00 gift card to Summit Mall.
