Mouthguards...Football, Basketball and ROLLER DERBY!?!
While we had a lot of high school athletes come in for a mouthguard, some of the more interesting mouthguards we made were for two of the members of the Rubber City Rollergirls, an all female Roller Derby Team. While their roller derby names may be silly, "MC HamHer" and "Dead Eye HuntHer", the sport is very serious and growing in popularity.

Congrats Miss Ohio Teen USA-- Barnett Orthodontics Patient
We were excited to learn recently that our past patient, Bridget Linton was crowned Miss Teen Ohio 2010. Bridget is an amazing person both inside and out and has used her position this year to work with different organizations such as the American Heart Association, Girl Talk and D.A.R.E. She has visited Ohio schools to encourage children to become aware of their inner beauty and promote a positive self image.
Congratulations Bridget and keep up the amazing work as Miss Ohio Teen USA!

Barnett Ortho Gives Back: HELP us HELP Our Community
In the month of October, our team will be volunteering at a local food shelter, the Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank. We will be helping with the organizing and packaging of their food donations. The food bank helps to feed people and fight hunger by providing food and other essential products to food pantries, hot meal sites, shelters and other hunger-relief programs. We are certain it will make a lot of people smile!
Considering the fact that we have the opportunity to work with almost a thousand area patients, we will be collecting food items for donations to the food bank.
We would LOVE your help!
Please bring in a non-perishable food item to assist us in our efforts. The items most needed are:
- boxed cereal
- peanut butter
- canned tuna
- canned vegetables
- canned stew
- canned soups
Everyone who brings in a food donation will be entered into a drawing for a $20.00 gift card to Summit Mall.
The person who brings in the most food items will win a $30.00 gift card to Summit Mall.
We look forward to working with our patients in giving back to our community. We greatly appreciate your support!

Shaquille O'Neal's Mouthguard costs $2995.00...
Later this summer/early fall we will be operating a one day only Mouthguard clinic. While Shaq's mouthguard costs almost $3000.00, we will be making you a similar style CUSTOM professional mouthguard at a very affordable price. The Mouthguard Clinic will be open to ANYONE, not just our patients.
Our intentions are to keep cost VERY LOW. It will probably be priced at/near a good boil-and-bite style mouthguard one could get from a sporting goods store. The mouthguard itself, however, will be significantly stronger, better and more protective than a boil-bite-mouthguard. Stay tuned for the date and time.
I came across this article about mouthguards (Big-League Chew), in the August issue of Time Magazine. It's rather entertaining and provides a quick look at the edge a good mouthguard can give to an athlete's performance.

Braces in Barberton—The Under Appreciated History of the Magic City
Founded by O.C. Barber, Barberton was constructed as an industrial city close to Akron and on the Ohio and Erie Canal. Diamond Match, owned and operated by O.C. Barber was located in the city and was the largest producer of matches in the United States producing 250 million matches a day. On the heels of the success of Diamond Match, O.C. Barber constructed one of the largest and most successful “super-farms” of its time. He mastered the principals of mass production, mechanization, innovation, and long-term planning. The 3,500 acre estate, with a daily operating expense of nearly $1,000, consisted of 12 acres of greenhouses, herds of top-quality livestock, several large barns, a piggery, poultry house, flour mill, concrete factory, brick works, creamery and a 40 acre park. On the highest part of the farm overlooking Barberton laid the 52 room, 50,000 square foot French Renaissance Revival mansion, reportedly described by the New York Times as the “finest mansion between New York and Chicago.” Fully completed in 1910, the mansion alone cost over $400,000 and required 18 months to finish.
Unfortunately the Barber Mansion was torn down in 1965 but many of the Barber Farm buildings have been restored and some are being used by local businesses. There is a wonderful historical society working hard to preserve the history of Barberton and Barnett Orthodontics is proud to be a business in the Barberton community.

Braces at age four? Not exactly...
At Barnett Orthodontics we know that a beautiful smile starts with education. Knowing how to properly care for our teeth is an integral part of achieving this. Therefore we've been actively seeking to educate our community's youth in proper brushing techniques to start those healthy habits early. After all, these could be our future patients. Pictured here is Dr. Barnett at a local preschool teaching 4 year olds the importance of taking care of those pearly whites!
It's never too early for dental preventative care, even in some cases, orthodontic treatment. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children receive their first orthodontic evaluation at the age of 7. If your dentist suggests a consultation or if you have any concerns regarding your child's smile, we would love to sit down with you. Give us a call today! 330.745.4497

Distinguished Recognition: Invisalign 2010 Preferred Provider at Barnett Orthodontics
At Barnett Orthodontics, we are known for exceptional results. To achieve the ideal result, a certain level of expertise is necessary. One such product that demands a high level of expertise is Invisalign (invisible braces). Invisalign is a series of clear, removable aligners that are changed every two weeks to straighten your teeth without braces.
This year, Invisalign is honoring orthodontists who have completed a high number of cases with recognition, so the public can choose an orthodontist with proper training. According to Invisalign, "Invisalign Preferred Providers have the experience and training that you can rely on."
Barnett Orthodontics is one of only two orthodontists in the area with Preferred Provider Status. It's important to note, that general dentists can perform Invisalign, however they do not have 2-3 years of advanced training beyond dental school like an orthodontist.
Trust your smile to an orthodontist.
Trust your Invisalign, to a Preferred Invisalign Orthodontist Provider.
